Sovereignty of God

What does it mean that God is sovereign? Does it mean he is in control of all things? Is it a good thing for God to control all things? These are some of the questions we will be exploring in Mark 4:34-5:43.

The Necessity of the Holy Spirit

What do we need for salvation? What is the necessary requirement for all those who wish to be a part of God’s kingdom? The Holy Spirit. In ‘the parable of the growing seed’ and ‘the parable of the mustard seed’, Jesus reveals how in all things regarding the Christian life, we are completely helpless without the power of the Holy Spirit. And he shows us that by embracing our helplessness we can find true assurance and peace.

Parable of the Sower

Jesus calls us to bear fruit. To live as Christians in this broken and sinful world. But dangers lurk around every corner, and we must be vigilant, always watching for those things we endanger the fruitfulness of our lives. Jesus in the parable of the sower wants to reveal these dangers to us and reveal our deep need for him to save us from them.

The Family of God

Why did Jesus come to make a new family? The Bible is riddled with terms such as “children of God”, “Adoption”, all these familial terms. But what does it mean to be a part of the family of God? Who is a part of this family? Are you born into it?

In Mark 3:18-35, Jesus will answer our questions, showing us the importance of this new family, and how we become a part of it.

In Mark 1:40-2:17, we will look at Jesus’ and his interaction with the Pharisees over the sabbath and what is acceptable to do or not do. The age old question how does the Sabbath apply to day?

Jesus Forgives and Cleanses

In Mark 1:40-2:17, we will look at Jesus’ teaching on our greatest need: forgiveness for our sins committed against God. Including how he sees us in our sin, and what happens when we don’t see our sin and need for forgiveness clearly.

Becoming a Disciple of Christ

In Mark 1:16-39, we explore what kind of authority and power Jesus has, and how we are to respond to it. We see several stories all showing Jesus’ authority and a multitude of responses to it. The big question is will we submit to his authority? Will we accept him as our Lord, as well as a saviour? Are we willing to learn what it means to be a true follower of Jesus?

Why do people reject the gospel?

Mark 1:1-15 is the introduction to our series in Mark, and we start with this question, Why do so many people reject the gospel? Mark begins recounting the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We see how John the Baptist prepares the people for Jesus’ arrival, how Jesus was shown to truly be the promised Messiah, and why after all of that the Jews still rejected and crucified him. All of this helps us to understand why people today continue to reject the gospel, even when it is such good news.
